La actriz Carolyn Jones ya había salido en pequeños papeles en los inicios de la década de los cincuenta, principalmente en cintas de la Paramount, en que prácticamente paso desapercibida para la mayoría de los cinéfilos, pues realmente su físico no era el de una belleza que llamara la atención y sus intervenciones eran mas o menos incidentales, pero cuando recibió la oportunidad de mostrar sus dotes histriónicas en el filme Despedida de soltero no la desaprovechó y aunque a lo mejor no son más de seis los que estuvo en pantalla como la “chica existencialista” que le mueve el “tapete” a  Don Murray, con problemas maritales, quien asiste a la despedida de soltero de su amigo de oficina que se va a casar y está a punto de caer en la tentación de establecer una relación más seria con su amiga casual, fue más que suficiente ese poco tiempo en pantalla para que Carolyn fuera nominada al Oscar de Mejor Actriz Secundaria en 1957. Por cierto la actriz se tiño de más negro, si es valido decirlo así, su ya de por si negro cabello, al tiempo que se lo cortaba en tipo melena a la “príncipe valiente”, eliminando su cabellera que usaba, prácticamente, hasta la cintura, que le dio un especial atractivo a su look, que sería bien utilizado por Michael Curtiz en el filme Melodía Siniestra en que era la amante del pandillero Walter Matthau, la cual pretende seducir a Elvis Presley, estando a punto de provocar la desgracia de Presley. También es recordable su rol como la amante del gangster  Baby Face Nelson (Mickey Rooney) en el estupendo filme de Don Siegel  Caminos de sangre; otra destacable actuación como chica alivianada lo tuvo en la comedia de Frank Capra Un hombre sin suerte. Otro estelar en que se hace notar es en el western El último tren, así como es de destacar su actuación en el drama Entre bastidores, al lado de Shirley MacLaine, Dean Martin y Anthony Franciosa; pero después de allí sus apariciones en cine fueron intermitentes,  a cambio de aparecer en infinidad de programas y shows de televisión, en lo que seguramente algo tuvo que ver su esposo Aaron Spelling productor de televisión, aunque la serie por la cual siempre será recordada es  Los Locos Addams  (The Addams Family) en la cual durante sus tres temporadas (64 episodios)  dio vida a Morticia, luciendo sensual, ahora, con su larga cabellera.

Carolyn Jones desde pequeña fue muy clara en su vocación de ser actriz y como adolescente entró a estudiar en Pasadena, donde destacó desde un inicio, por lo cual no tuvo muchos problemas para empezar a conseguir pequeños papeles en los estudios de cine, aunque como lo señale antes al no ser una belleza de “parara el tráfico”, se le fue encasillando en roles secundarios o papeles problemáticos que necesitaban algo más que una cara bonita y sin alcanzar nunca el estrellato no pasó desapercibida su andadura en los sets cinematográficos o en la televisión sobre todo. Murió el 3 de agosto de 1983 a los 53 años a consecuencia de un cáncer de colón.
