El lugar común para definir a esta “estrella” masculina de los años cuarenta y cincuenta, es que a pesar de sus escasas cualidades para la actuación, debido a su físico y, seguramente, a mucha suerte, motivada por su apostura del gusto de las espectadoras de su época, logró participar en una serie de películas que lo mantuvieron en un buen lugar de popularidad. En una ocasión en que se hospedó en un hotel de España, al llenar la hoja de registro, en el renglón de ocupación, puso NINGUNA. Entonces la recepcionista que lo había identificado, le replicó: “pero si usted es ACTOR”, a lo cual Mature respondió prontamente y con ingenio: “Hay 64 películas que comprueban lo contrario”. Obviamente que su respuesta fue rápida, pero no precisa ya que su filmografía consta de 55 títulos para el cine, en la cual siempre brillará su interpretación de “Doc” Holliday en el western clásico de John Ford “Pasión de los Fuertes” (My Darling Clementine, 1946) y ya si uno es muy fanático, quizás recordará con simpatía su presencia en filmes como “Sansón y Dalila”, “El caudillo rebelde”, “El tirano de la frontera” o como el hombre prehistórico Tumak en “El Despertar del Mundo”, que fue, precisamente, la cinta que lo lanzó al estrellato.
